Connaught Drive is a beautiful tree lined road at the Padang in Singapore.

The Story of Connaught Drive

Connaught Drive is a one way road that links Stamford Road to Fullerton Road in Singapore.  The Esplanade Park is on the left side of the road and the Padang is on the right side.

Lined with old tall Angsana trees, Connaught Drive is a quiet scenic road which was a popular dating spot for couples in the 1970s and 1980s.

Connaught Drive was closed to vehicles and became fully pedestrianised in end 2021.

The Story of the Painting

Distinguished Singapore artist Low Hai Hong experimented painting oil on paper and loved the effects.  Painting oil on paper meant he could leave white spaces, similar to Chinese ink painting and even watercolour painting.

In this painting, the large sections of white space, from the road to the skies, create additional quiet calm to this peaceful road filled with beautiful greenery.

See this island

Every grain of sand

Hear this anthem

It's the voices of our friends

Come whatever on the road ahead

We did it before

And we'll do it again
