How to Appreciate Paintings #65: At the art gallery (Part 4)
Now that we are all settled at the art gallery, let us start to look at the paintings.
There is no right or wrong way to look at paintings.
Some of us prefer to look at the painting first, some of us prefer to start by reading the label beside the painting. Some of us prefer to begin by looking at the painting up close, some of us to prefer to give the painting an overview first. Some of us prefer to walk around the exhibtion quickly and stopping to look only at the paintings that catch our attention, some of us prefer to look at each painting carefully before proceeding to the next.
While there is no right or wrong way to look at paintings, the most important thing is to spend time with the painting. We cannot hope to appreciate any painting if we look at it for only three seconds. That is true for all things in life. We cannot appreciate anything in life if we do not spend time with it. Of course effort must be made with the time spent, but spending time will eventually lead to making effort.
Spending time looking at a few paintings let us appreciate paintings more than having looked at many paintings quickly.
How to appreciate paintings? Spend time with the painting. Looking at a painting for three seconds will not lead to any appreciation.
